Marilyn Monroe's dress & dog

Marilyn Monroe's thirty six years on this earth and thirty something films continue to inspire and intrigue people all over the world. Her life is still celebrated and mythologised; so much so that the famous pink dress - with those long, long matching gloves - that she wore in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, has just sold at auction in LA for a staggering US$313,000.
I've heard rumblings of a new Marilyn biopic, with both Naomi Watts and Michelle Williams being bandied about as possible stars (I love Naomi, but considering she is older than Marilyn was when she passed away, I think she'd be a pretty odd choice), and the gorgeous Scottish author Andrew O'Hagan has just released his new novel The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog and of his friend Marilyn Monroe (Faber).

I was lucky enough to share lunch with Andrew when he was in Australia in 2007 plugging the subtly brilliant Be Near Me. He is funny and warm as well as fabulously talented and I can't wait to read the story of Marilyn's last two years - and the story of America at that time - told from the perspective of Marilyn's dog! Check out the book trailer here ...

And a little bit of Marilyn, for your viewing pleasure:
